WK14 P3 (free) Tumblr & Goodbye
If it wasn’t for this class I never would have discovered tumblr. Tumblr has actually put some entertainment in my life. It’s a place were I can just sit back and see what people are talking about. I suppose you could say this site is somewhat of my social outlet when my friends are not near by. I’m glad that I took LOR 101 and I will recommend it to everyone I know. Also because of this class I can honestly say that tumblr is not good source of accurate information, but that aside it is quite an enjoyable site full of laughs. As my last post I’m surprised it really doesn’t feel like this should end. Maybe I should make a personal account and continue seeking out information. Overall I hate to say goodbye but I’m glad that I got so much helpful information from this class. I would give my teacher a trophy if i could, she’s amazing.
Wk13 P3 (free) Sleep
I am a person who does not get enough sleep. I usually stay up late because of work at my job, school work, or my friends. I have often wonder how much sleep an average american gets per night, where I stand compared to that, and how much sleep do we actually need per night. I searched Google and found this http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=fact-or-fiction-can-you-catch-up-on-sleep. It state that we as americans get an average of 6.7 hours of sleep per night, two hours less than we should be getting. It also says that durring the week we skim our hours to due projects of house work and on the weekends our body tries to catch up. We, as americans, collect more than just money debt apparently, we collect sleep debt. The more we cut hours the more our sleep debt increases, and if this article is right I’m up a creek without a paddle. I shorten my hours a fair amount, no wonder I crash. I get an average of 4-6 hours per night during the weekdays. During the weekend, unless I have an important assignment due I can sleep for 12 hours at a time. Overall I guess I learned I need to sleep more. Hopefully with the end of the semester coming up I can.
Wk12 P3 (free) Tea
I love tea, it’s the main drink I consume other than coffee. When people thing of tea they generally think of black tea. That is the tea normally served around here in restaurants and even most homes. However there are many, many, types of tea. One of my personal favorite teas is green tea. The flavor of green tea, verses black tea, is lighter and sweeter. It’s aroma is also not a strong as black tea. My favorite sweetener for my green tea is natural honey. However, my personal preference aside there are any other teas available to the public to choose from like oolong tea, white tea, pu-erh tea, and herbal tea. There are also subcategories of tea in each category but to go through every single tea would take quite a long time. Overall, as I stated before, i love tea, just about any type.
Wk11 P3 (free) Poverty Rate
I have always wanted to know where I stand, money wise, in the United States. I’ve always been currious about what was concidered the poverty level and how many people are below it and above it. So I decided to search Google to find out. From here http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/11poverty.shtml I found out that the poverty level income for one person is $10,890. I was actually surprised because I actually make below this every year. So i guess I’m under the poverty level, who knew? I also want to know the percentage of the united states that is also under this level and who is over. From here http://www.npc.umich.edu/poverty/#2 I founf that 15.1% of all americans, in 2010, were living in poverty and that this percentage has been the highest since 1993. That means that 84.9% is above the poverty line, how far above I’m not for sure. Overall I satisfied my curiosity about poverty, I kind of disappointed in myself that I a in the poverty level. I know one day I will make above this level.
Wk10 P3 (free) Anime
Anime or ‘animated cartoons’ is something that has been apart of my life as long as I can remember. I remember watching cartoon network and toonami to see new episodes of DBZ and Yu Yu haksho. There are different types of anime and they are set towards different audiences. Shojo is mainly for young girls, it usually contain a fair amount of romance, a fair amount of talking, and almost no bloody violence. Shonen is mainly for younger boys, it usually contains little to no romance, more fights, usually involving tournaments of some kind, and occasionally there is blood. There’s also Mecha which is centered towards people who enjoy the advancement of technology. There is usually a fair amount of blood and gore in these types but also contain interesting plot and romance. It’s generally directed to teenage boys and girls. Overall there are any types of anime, just like regular tv shows. I still enjoy anime it’s one of my favorite things to watch.
Wk9 P3 (free) Cosplay
Cosplay is one of my many passions. Cosplay is short for costume play, which means I dress up for fun. Now you can cosplay as many different things from DC and Marval characters to anime or science fiction characters. Cosplay is a way for people to have fun and escape from this hectic world, even for a day or two. Cosplay can differ between just a wig, or some cats ears, to a full blown, accurate to the last detail, costume of your favorite character. People can easily spend hundreds of dollars on their costumes. Some people sew their own costumes together, which I am going to be attempting to do very soon, and some people find professionals who make costumes for a living. They ask these people to commission their costumes, for a price of course. Getting your costume done professionally will most definitely cost you more than if you sewed it yourself. However a cosplay is made, the point is that you have fun while cosplaying.
Wk8 P3 (free) How to Sew!
I’m writing this post more for myself than anything. My mother was a great seamstress but sadly enough she dies before I could learn anything. I want o carry on her legacy of sewing but I honestly didn’t know where to start. I can sew a finger puppet, that’s about it. So I searched Google for a good starting place. I found http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Sew./?ALLSTEPS. This site walks me though how to thread my needle and how to do certain type of stitches. I found it very helpful by getting my foot in the door. Then I searched Google for what would be the easiest starting project for a novice like me. I actually found my answer though yahoo answers, oddly enough. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090125202501AAJEDao The suggestions and the sites, that the lady who answered the question posted, got me through the sewing door. I’m real excited to try sewing because of my other hobby cosplaying, which will be posted in another free post very soon.
Wk14 P2 “forcasting the future”
In class we discussed ‘Global North’, the more developed wealthier countries that have access to more than just basic needs, and the ‘Global South’, third world and underdeveloped countries. I was actually unaware that such terms existed until that class. As a ‘Global North’ country the United States has been accustomed to a certain lifestyle. We expect to have internet and cell phone signal, no matter where we go. This is actually causing a trend across ‘Global South’ countries as well. After their basic needs are met, food, water, and basic shelter, they expect to have cell phone reception and the internet to surf on. It’s amazing how technology has changed our views on what is most important in life. I think that the need for growing technology will become such a problem that some people will be willing to sacrifice their own basic need for shelter, just to get the internet. It’s quite terrifying.
